Sharon McMullen

Hi my name is Sharon. I began my Bachelor of Science (Psychology) course at Curtin University in 1998 and graduated with a distinction in the year 2000. On completing my degree I applied for a position as an In Home Support Coordinator at Bellhealth, and was a successful applicant.

Bellhealth is situated in Nedlands. It is an in home support and nursing agency. The nursing division provides nursing staff to healthcare facilities throughout Western Australia including Public and Private Metropolitan hospitals, country hospitals and remote area assignments as well as aged care nursing and hostel facilities.

The in home support division originated out of a need to assist people who wish to maintain their independence while continuing to live at home. Services provided to the community, aged care agencies and the Home and Community Care Program in WA include, showering, dressing, bed making, companionship, meals assistance, mobility (i.e. outings and exercise), cleaning, cooking, shopping, laundry, overnight care and respite care. My position within this division is as an In Home Support Coordinator, which involves coordinating the provision of in home support services to individuals residing within the City of Joondalup. More specifically, I ensure that the most appropriate staff member is allocated to a particular client, with the view that this individual will assist the client in meeting their needs and helping them to live as independently as possible, as well as to avoid premature admission to permanent care.

I have been an employee at Bellhealth now for a period of approximately six months, and am thoroughly enjoying the challenges that are presented to me. I have gained essential skills and knowledge through attending various courses and through my role as an In Home Support Coordinator, which will prove beneficial in all areas of work.
